14 Mar 2018 Euroa Gazette, Euroa VIC (General News) THE Andrews Labor Government is fixing a notorious stretch of the Euroa-Mansfield Road and supporting local jobs, awarding a contract for a vital safety upgrade to local company Wright Earthmoving. Jaclyn Symes (MLC, Northern Victoria) said the work on the $2.86 million safety upgrade is set to get underway. There have been nine run-off road crashes at this location in the last five years, resulting in two fatalities and five serious injuries. Works include the realignment of a 700-metre section of the EuroaMansfield Road, 24km south of Euroa, to reduce run-off road crashes. Workers will cut the existing crest to improve sightlines and straighten out dangerous bends by making the road shoulders wider. This realignment will provide drivers with a consistent approach speed and reduce the risk of crashes. The upgrade will also lower the crest at the Penny Lane and Ridge Road intersections and include the installation of life-saving flexible safety barriers along this high-risk route. This upgrade will improve safety on a dangerous stretch of the EuroaMansfield Road and support local jobs for local people, Ms Symes said. These are vital safety improvements to this section of road which has seen nine run-off crashes causing serious injury and deaths. Labor is investing in the things that we know save lives on country roads removing a dangerous bend, widening road shoulders and installing flexible safety barriers to prevent run-off- road crashes. The Andrews Labor Government is investing $1.1 billion to reduce Victorias road toll to fewer than 200 deaths by 2020 and reduce serious injuries by 15 per cent.
