19 Jun 2017 Riverine Herald, Echuca VIC (General News) INTERSECTIONS on the Murray Valley Hwy, Echuca will be made safer soon. On Friday the Victorian Government announced a $20 million investment for use between Yarrawonga and Echuca. Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said more than 130km of the highway would receive upgrades, including improvements to key intersections and rest stops, as well as sealing dangerous road shoulders. Echucas upgrades will be at the intersections of McMillan Rd and Sturt St but it is not yet known what the upgrade will be or when it will be completed which community consultation is expected to decide. Campaspe Shire mayor Adrian Weston said the level of funding would allow for some significant upgrades to be done on some key intersections on the highway. Council has been actively working with VicRoads in identifying a range of high priority projects on the Murray Valley Highway, in our shire, he said. We believe that there will be some important safety outcomes, however recognise not everything will be funded and will continue to work with VicRoads for future projects. We now look forward to the proposed works coming through for community consultation. Ms Symes said the Murray Valley Hwy was an important freight and tourist route between Echuca and Yarrawonga and a key connection to the Shepparton area.
