08 Mar 2018 Border Mail, Albury-Wodonga (General News) by Shana Morgan AN EXTRA 20 police officers will be stationed in towns across the North East, dedicated to the growing problem of family violence. The roles will make up the bulk of the allocation of 33 new police for the region, out of a total of 825 officers due to start in the next year, as announced in last years Victorian budget. Northern Victorian MP Jaclyn Symes said family violence can take up to 60 per cent of police time, with officers attending a family violence incident every seven minutes, so the extra positions would free up police to deal with other crime. The safety of our local community is key and weve listened to police to give them everything they need the resources, the technology and the powers to keep the community safe. Our communities in the North East can expect to see more police on the street, more proactive patrols and even stronger enforcement over the next 12 months, Ms Symes said.
