BROADFORDS new multi-purpose pavilion and two new netball courts are a step closer with a $500,000 funding announcement for the Harley Hammond Reserve. Upper House Member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes announced that local groups will receive the funding towards t heir $1.3million project to build the new pavilion and netball courts complete with lighting. She was joined by Mitchell Shire councillors, Broadford football Netball Club and Broadford Junior Nelball Club, and Broadford Tennis Club at the announcement. The Broadford Tennis Club, local schools and community groups will also be able to use the upgraded amenities, courts and new pavilion. The funding comes from the state government Female Friendly Facilities Fund. Mitchell Shire, with government assistance carried out a $340,000 upgrade of Harley Hammond Reserve in 2017 which saw a new grass surface, turf wicket, an automatic irrigation system and conduit laid for future lighting requirements. The latest funding will help local senior and junior sporting clubs with new sport and active recreation facilities and rejuvenating tired grounds and ageing clubrooms across the state. Ms Symes acknowledged Mitchell Shire Council for their financial contribution to this project. Sports like football, netball and tennis are booming in Broadford and the grant will ensure no-one misses out on the benefits only sport and recreation can deliver. This significant upgrade is a major win for my home town of Broadford and the hundreds of players from the sporting clubs and schools who currently use this ground. Ms Symes said.
