A new bed
30 Mar 2016 Seymour Telegraph, Seymour VIC (General News)
Seymour District Memorial Hospital oncology unit will receive an additional bed, which will be used to establish same-day oncology service, thanks to the Victorian Governments Beds Rescue Fund. The bed will cater for an additional 150 patients a year, and is one of 41 additional beds that have been delivered to Northern Victoria hospitals for high dependency units, critical care, inpatient, maternity and elective surgery, dental beds, short stay, oncology and emergency departments. These new 41 beds will mean an extra 9794 patients will be treated each year in country hospitals throughout Northern Victoria, member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said. In less than a year, we have opened 101 new beds and points of care as promised so patients in country Victoria can access the care they need, when they need it. Last year, former AMA Victoria president Dr Douglas Travis carried out the most comprehensive review ever undertaken into the capacity of Victorias hospitals. In line with his recommendations, the 2015-16 Victorian Budget delivered $200 million to open 101 beds and points of care at hospitals across the state, which will treat nearly 20 000 extra patients every year.
