24 May 2017 Numurkah Leader, Numurkah VIC (General News) KATUNGA South Primary School is joining 10 state schools across the Mora Shire to get improved bandwidth and digital connectivity. The Victorian Government is giving 347 regional schools $16.4m for double bandwidth, so more students can get online at the same time. Katunga South Primary School technician Karl Giddens said he was still waiting to see the details of the funding announcement. He said the boost will allow all the students to watch videos simultaneously and update their devices without dealing with lags. It means that if these smaller schools decided to get a larger number of devices like iPads, they wont run into so many problems, he said. Katunga South has less than 20 students, but it would be a different story if they had 50 students. Northern Victoria MP Jaclyn Symes said country schools will have faster and more reliable access to online teaching and learning resources. We are investing in schools because we want local students to have the same standard of digital education as metropolitan schools, she said. No student in northern Victoria should miss out on learning the skills they will need for the jobs of the future.
