Boat access ramp up

Visiting the site last week, Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes, said improving access to popular fishing destinations such as Lake Mulwala, is a key element of the Governments Target One Million plan, which includes $9 million from recreational fishing licence fees to get more people fishing, more often.
The $280,000 Majors Lane project will include a double lane boat ramp, formalised car parking, a new toilet and visitor facilities.
The project was jointly funded by Goulburn Murray Water who pitched in $30,000, Moira Shire $15,000, NSW Roads and Maritime Services $150,000 and the Victoria Fisheries Authority $85,000 through Target One Million.
The majority of construction of the widened boat ramp has reached completion as the works were done while the lake was lowered while additional inclusions are still in the process of development.
Goulburn Murray Water Managing Director Pat Lennon said as well as the construction of the double lane boat ramp some restorations had to be done also.
The wakeboats have generated quite a large cavity just off the concrete making it very hard for people to put their boat in and pull the boat out, Mr Lennon said.
The fishing platform still needs to be reoriented which is easier to do when floating while a majority of the works were done while the lake was lowered.
Hopefully weve created the balance for people to fish here as well as for other water sports.
Renovations will also be undertaken at two smaller boat ramps at Pasley Street and Pyke Street in Bundalong, where the Ovens and Murray rivers meet.
Lake Mulwala is considered one of the most productive Murray Cod fisheries in Australia, and the government is supporting this project to give fishers better facilities and attract even more fishing tourism to North East Victoria, Ms Symes said.
The new and upgraded boat ramps at Bundalong will improve this great fishing spot and boost local and visiting angler numbers.
Improving fishing opportunities and facilities is a key component of the Target One Million plan, which continues to grow recreational fishing across country Victoria, giving families better opportunities to spend some quality time together outdoors.
These works will now allow more people to access the lake, prevent wake boats displacing rocks at the edge of the concrete apron when they power onto trailers and will reduce the risk of boats being damaged as they approach the ramps.
