Broadford community hub under way

23 Aug 2017 Seymour Telegraph, Seymour VIC (General News) A major upgrade set to transform Broadford Living and Learning Centre into a modern and vibrant community hub has begun. Construction at the multipurpose building started last week, with works expected to be finished by the end of November. Council worked closely with the community and the Broadford Living and Learning Centre steering committee to plan the $660 000 project Features of the upgrade include a new flexible open space; multi-use office space and waiting area; four large multi-purpose rooms; upgrades to the existing toilets; a new open-plan kitchen and servery; internal recarpeting and painting; an IT and e-Learning room; historic display; and an outdoor play area. This upgrade will significantly improve the opportunities for Broadford residents and the wider Mitchell community to gather in a modern space that reflects the needs of our growing community, Mitchell Shire Mayor Rhonda Sanderson said. There is such a wonderful group of volunteers that use the Broadford Living and Learning Centre on a regular basis and it will be fantastic to see this badly-needed upgrade come to fruition. Council thanked the Victorian Government and Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes for funding the project through the Growing Suburbs Fund. Ms Symes said the centre was another significant project for Broadford. Im very pleased to have secured this funding in my home town for the Broadford Living and Learning Centre which will be turned into a new vibrant space the entire community can enjoy, she said. The centre, at 162 High St, will be closed to the public during construction, with the groups that regularly use the facility temporarily re-located to other local community centres.
