08 Oct 2018 Shepparton News, Shepparton VIC (General News) The Nagambie Lakes Community House will soon offer more services after receiving Victorian government funding. The facility will be funded under the Victorian Governments Neighbourhood Houses Co-ordination Program, announced by State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes at the location last week. Ms Symes said the funding meant the neighbourhood house would be able to provide even more services after receiving funding for up to 25 co-ordination hours each week. Building local connections is important, especially in country towns and thats why weve invested $21.8 million in neighbourhood houses right across the state, Ms Symes said. The funding was welcomed by Neighbourhood Houses chief executive Nicole Battle, who said the injection would provide more Victorians with the vital services, support and learning opportunities they needed to participate in their local community. The Nagambie Community House began operation in 2010 and provides the community with friendship and much needed services as well as a venue for individuals or groups to use when participating in activities. The houses role is to also identify and encourage community participation in the management and delivery of health, welfare, social, educational, recreational services and other activities. The Victorian Government announced $21.8 million over four years to boost its Neighbourhood House Co-ordination Program in the recent budget. One-time grants of up to $30 000 have also been made available for houses wishing to upgrade their buildings to make them more accessible, as well as grants of up to $10 000 for minor works, equipment and ICT upgrades. These grants will be announced in coming weeks.
