Country patients get a flu boost

The Victorian government has pumped an additional SII5 million into the states health system to give hospitals relief from a massive surge in demand following one of the worst-ever flu seasons. Upper House Member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes, said that public hospitals and bush nursing centres will share in the special funding support package. Local health services to receive the funding are Corryong Health ($47,000), Walwa Bush Nursing Centre (110,000) and Tallangatta Health ($85,000}. This years flu season has resulted in sustained pressure on Victorias health system with more than 14,000 flu cases reported across the state so far. Thisfluseason has hit us hard and every single one of our public hospitals in country Victoria has been working overtime so people can continue tn have access to the care they need and when they need it, Ms Symes said. Our dedicated doctors, nurses. paramedics and other health care workers have done a remarkable job in the face of unprecedented demand, ensuring patients are receiving the first class care they deserve. Ms Symes said this funding package will support local hospitals to ensure a record number of patients can get the care they need from emergency departments faster, for the remainder of the year.
