01 Nov 2016 North Central Review (Kilmore), Melbourne (General News) STUDENTS at schools across Mitchell Shire will soon have better facilities as a result of a state government funding boost of more than $40 million. Member for Yan Yean, Danielle Green and Member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes announced that $1.2million has been allocated for a variety of maintenance programs at schools across the Mitchell Shire. The schools to receive the boost include Seymour College ($630,000), primary schools at Upper Plenty ($25,000), Wallan ($320,000), Broadford ($40,000), Kilmore ($49,000), Tallarook ($46,000) and Wandong ($135,000). A total of 436 schools across Victoria will share in $41.6 million to upgrade old buildings under the Andrews Labor Governments Planned Maintenance Program. Ms Green said the government supports schools through the Planned Maintenance Program so that they can refurbish, demolish, or replace buildings that fall below minimum standards. There are some fantastic schools in Mitchell Shire and this funding boost will mean its facilities can be upgraded to match the high quality teaching and learning environment the school provides, Ms Green said. Ms Symes added that the Andrews Government was committed to improving schools after four years of inaction from the Liberal and National Party. This funding boost will provide local schools with the upgraded buildings they need so that our teachers and students have the first-rate facilities, Ms Symes said. Across Victoria, 65 schools shared in $10.8 million under the first round of funding earlier this year, which was provided to complement capital works projects funded at those schools in the Victorian Budget 2016/17. Last weeks announcement means a total of 501 schools will share in a record investment of $52.4 million in school maintenance this year.
