Funding improves transport access to markets

16 Jun 2017 Riverine Herald, Echuca VIC (General News) GANNAWARRA Shires agriculture sector will be getting goods to market faster once a significant road upgrade is completed. Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes has announced $83,000 funding for sealing a section of McFarlane Rd. The road near Lake Charm is a key route connecting producers to processing and freight facilities in Echuca, Shepparton and beyond. As agribusiness in the region expands, McFarlane Rd is carrying increasingly heavy loads. Local Roads to Market funding will help seal a section of the road making it more usable for heavy vehicles transporting produce. Agriculture in northern Victoria is one of this states most important industries and we are determined to help our farm businesses and their supply chains improve productivity and compete in international markets and create jobs, Ms Symes said. We are making improvements where it counts sealing gravel roads, fixing tight and dangerous intersections and strengthening bridges to get our great northern Victoria produce to market quickly and in top quality condition. These upgrades will improve agribusiness and supply chain productivity and improve the country road network for all users.
