GOTAFE establishing Skills & Jobs Centres

14 Dec 2015 Wangaratta Chronicle, Wangaratta VIC (General News) New hub at Wangaratta campus to help job seekers, employers CONSTRUCTION is well under way for the two new Skills and Jobs Centres at both the GOTAFE Wangaratta and Shepparton campuses. Last month Jaclyn Symes (MLC, Northern Victoria) announced $ 1 million for GOTAFE to assist with construction and operation of the two centres, as well as providing services to satellite locations at Benalla and Seymour. GOTAFE skills and O employment manager, Jodee Price, said the Skills and Jobs Centres are part of a statewide government initiative designed to provide independent advice to assist job seekers understand study options, identify career plans and access support services to assist with finding a job. The new hubs will be the first point-of-call for students looking to start training, workers needing to reskill, unemployed workers needing support for retraining and work placement and for employers, said Ms Price. She said tht in addition to providing core assessment and advisory services, the centres will develop key partnerships with other providers to enhance service provision and connectivity into the workplace or study. The centres will provide a fantastic opportunity to invest in key areas of need across the community, said Ms Price. J They will provide opportunities not only for job seekers, but for employers, industry and the region. We are looking forward to collaborating with other industries to help the region move forward. Set to open in late February 2016, GOTAFE will begin recruiting staff to join its team in the coming weeks, with job advertisements set to appear on the GOTAFE website, J www.gotafe.vic.edu.au. We will be looking for skilled people who are passionate about making a difference to our region by empowering others with job ready skills and knowledge to succeed in a new career, Ms Price said. A number of positions will be available based in both Wangaratta and Shepparton, including a relationship manager, career advisors and client engagement officers.
