27 Sep 2016 North Central Review (Kilmore), Melbourne (General News) WANDONG and Seymour are among 24 local crime prevention projects to receive a share in $125,000 from the latest round of the Victorian Governments Community Safety Fund grants. Wandong received a grant for the installation of an alarm system at the Wandong Catholic Church to prevent break-ins and improve security of equipment stored on site, while Seymour Youth and Fitness Centre received grant money for the installation of new security doors to prevent break-ins and to secure equipment. The Community Safety Fund provides up to $10,000 for councils and community groups across Victoria to help reduce local crime and improve community safety. The latest round of grants support projects to improve security at community facilities, initiatives to make local public places safer and encourage more community use as well as education and awareness programs to help prevent motor vehicle theft, residential and commercial burglaries. Member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes would like to extend her congratulations to the local councils and community groups who were successful in their community grant applications. Our local communities understand local issues. I am proud to be able to provide them with the funds they need to improve the safety and security of community facilities and stop crime before it happens, Ms Symes said.
