18 Jul 2018 Seymour Telegraph, Seymour VIC (General News) by Gus McCubbing $3.17 million injection Seymour Health has been equipped to build a new 10-bedroom residential aged care wing within Barrabill House after receiving a $3.17 million funding boost. The Barrabill House redevelopment project, which is scheduled to be completed by 2020, will remove the need for shared rooms while adding a minimum of six additional rooms. Seymour Health chief executive officer Chris McDonnell said it was important for the hospital to respond to, and meet, the changing needs of the community. We have an ageing population and a significant number of people with dementia, he said. The redeveloped facility will create a more homelike environment for residents, enabling people to stay in their own community and remain connected with their families. Mr McDonnell also said Seymour Health had co-contributed $350 000 to the project, bringing the total cost to $3.52 million of capital investment into the local community. Its a great vision for Seymour its about making the town a healthy community where you can stay in the community, he said. Seymour Health Community Reference Committee member Faye Ure, who has lived in Seymour since 1971, said she was rapt with the announcement. Im a great believer in not-forprofit aged care, so its wonderful . . . and we certainly need it, she said. Announcing the funding Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said it followed confirmation in April that $1.6 million of funding was committed by the Victorian Government to upgrade the Seymour Health urgent care centre. Barrabill House does a great job caring for Seymours older residents and we are upgrading it, to give residents the safe, modern and comfortable home they deserve, Ms Symes said.
