11 Oct 2017 Seymour Telegraph, Seymour VIC (General News) Seymour Health will receive a $140 873 funding boost to offer relief from a massive surge in demand following one of Victorias worst-ever flu seasons. This years flu season has resulted in sustained pressure across Victorias health system, with more than 14 000 flu cases reported across Victoria so far. There was a surge in people visiting emergency departments in winter. In August alone, more than 3900 people visited emergency departments each day the largest number for August on record. However, Seymour Health, like hospitals across the state, has risen to the challenge, dedicating significant resources and staff to provide quality care this winter and flu season. Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said the special funding package would support the local hospital to ensure patients could get the care they needed faster. This flu season has hit us hard and every single one of our public hospitals in country Victoria has been working overtime so Victorians can continue to have access to the care they need, when they need it, Ms Symes said. Our dedicated doctors, nurses, paramedics and other healthcare workers have done a remarkable job in the face of unprecedented demand, ensuring patients are receiving the firstclass care they deserve.
