Indigenous voice heard

Seymour-based Taungurung Clans Aboriginal Corporation was last week visited by the Minister for Aboriginal Affairs. Natalie Hutchins was in town with Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes to talk to corporation staff about local heritage and culture, education and youth engagement. Ms Hutchins said Registered Aboriginal Parties such as the corporation were the voice of Traditional Owners in the management and protection of Aboriginal cultural heritage. The Victorian Government wanted to see Traditional Owners empowered and with the capacity to carry out this work. Taungurung Clans Aboriginal Corporation carries out important work protecting and managing local Aboriginal cultural heritage, Ms Hutchins said. Ms Symes said the politicians heard from the passionate people at the corporation about their priorities, aspirations and the services they deliver in the Taungurung region.
