After nearly four months, the $800 000 upgrade of Mangalore Airport is officially complete. The project, which began in mid-May, was implemented with the intention of growing the complex as a pilot training facility, as well as allowing the airport to continue providing aviation services. As a result, more than 91 000 sq m of runway has been resurfaced, 26 000 sq m of the main aircraft apron has been resealed and 60 existing jobs have been secured. Additionally, roughly $15 million in direct revenue from pilot training services is expected annually. As the airport builds its student base and more services are required to support the growing training facility, the project will help Mangalore attract new business and job opportunities to the area, Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said. This is an exciting time for Mangalore Airport as it looks to expand, potentially creating even more jobs in country Victoria. The scheme, which included a $327 450 investment from the Victorian Government, was funded as part of its $500 million Regional Jobs and Infrastructure Fund.
