24 Jan 2017 The Free Press, Kilmore, VIC (General News) TWO Mitchell Shire youth projects are among 18 projects to share in nearly $40,000 in state government funding to celebrate National Youth Week in March. Member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes announced the funding last Thursday, January 19 for Mitchell Shire Councils What Happens in Autumn Mitchell Youth Carnival and Mitchell Community Radios OKR FM Young Presenters Quest. Ms Symes said each organisation would receive up to $2000 in funding to hold community youth events. Labor is giving young people in country Victoria a chance to get together, showcase their diversity, skills and ideas, Ms Symes said. These events are a great way for us as a community to celebrate our youth, their skills and ideas. In past years, we have seen exciting activities and performances young people have put on during National Youth Week and I am sure these will be just as successful. The Labor Government is providing over $200,000 in funding for National Youth Week grants, which recognise the contribution of young people to Victoria and celebrate their achievements. The government will also host the inaugural Youth Summit on March 31, 2017, marking the start of National Youth Week. Young people from across Victoria will attend the summit to discuss issues that matter most to them and to turn their ideas into action. The Youth Summit is one of the Victorian Governments flagship projects to engage with young people under its Youth Policy Building Stronger Youth Engagement in Victoria. National Youth Week will run from March 31 to April 9, in 2017. The session was free and taught the children how to make animated movies, including the use of a green screen and sound.
