THE Victorian Government is helping several northern Victorian councils with their finances and accounting, through a series of grants and collaborative projects. Moira Shire is receiving a $56,250 grant to develop a business case for a shared service delivery model in environmental health and planning services. Moira joins Indigo Shire, Alpine Shire, Benalla Rural City, Mansfield Shire, Moira Shire, Towong Shire, Wangaratta Rural City and Wodonga Rural City to receive the funding. Local Government Minister Natalie Hutchins announced the new funding to strengthen the financial capacity of country councils, and provide better value for money for ratepayers. The Finance and Accounting Support Team program is supporting councils in need of specialist finances and accounting assistance and boost collaboration and use of shared services. Labor Upper House Member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes said Victorias councils are a significant contributor to the economy. They employ more than 50,000 people and deliver $7 billion in services annually, managing more than $77 billion in community assets. Labor understands that rural councils face unique challenges, thats why were investing to help them work together to overcome those challenges, Ms Symes said. This is just one of many ways Labor are supporting community needs right across northern Victoria. Licensed by Copyright Agency. You may only copy or communicate this work with a licence.
