YOUTH in Mt Beauty will create a mural for the towns skate park and sports precinct with funding from the state governments graffiti prevention program.
Alpine Shire Council will receive $28,300 as part of the grant program which aims to see local councils team up with community groups, police, schools and local businesses to deliver anti-graffiti projects.
Jaclyn Symes (MLC, Norther Victoria) said Alpine Shire Council will engage professional street artists to work with local youth to design and paint a street art mural.
Mt Beauty does not have a significant graffiti problem, however it is accepted that legitimate street art projects often have a deterring effect on unwelcome graffiti as well as producing positive community connectedness outcomes, Ms Symes said.
Im a huge fan of street-art and cant wait to see what the talented young people of Mt Beauty come up with.
The project will also be supported by education sessions provided by Victoria Police.
Since July 2015, the Labor Government has allocated more than $1.7 million towards 91 anti-graffiti projects across Victoria.
