05 Jul 2017 Cobram Courier, Cobram VIC (General News) A $20 million upgrade will help make the Murray Valley Hwy between Echuca and Yarrawonga safer, with the Victorian Government announcing funding towards the project. It is jointly funded by the Victorian and Federal governments, with $10 million provided for the project in this years federal budget. State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said more than 130 km of the highway would receive upgrades, including improvements to key intersections and rest stops, as well as sealing dangerous road shoulders. The Murray Valley Hwy is an important freight and tourist route between Echuca and Yarrawonga and a key connection to the Shepparton area. The highway is a two-lane road, with a 100 km/hour designated speed limit and several high-speed curves. In the past decade there has been a significant increase in traffic volumes and the highway has seen an increase in crashes. Locals will get a chance to have a say on the upgrades through a community consultation process. Labors investment of $10 million is making the Murray Valley Hwy safer for local communities, tourists and the freight industry, Ms Symes said.
