An update has been delivered on the creation of Australian Consolidated Milks new Girgarre facility at the old Heinz tomato sauce factory site, with a visit from the states agriculture minister last week.
Expected to create 50 jobs, the processing plant, valued at $80 million, will be constructed on the Curr Rd site.
The hope is for the new facility to help workers affected by the closure of Rochesters Murray Goulburn plant, alongside expanding dairy exports to the tune of $15 million per year.
The factory will produce milk powders, butter and cream from both organic and conventional milk for domestic and export markets.
Construction of the new facility has started, while commercial production of milk powder and butter is expected by April next year.
Agriculture Minister Jaala Pulford said the government was proud to support ACMs new Girgarre venture.
This investment will make a real difference for this region with more jobs for locals and even more incredible, Victorian-made dairy products on supermarket shelves, she said.
State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes described the facility as great news for northern Victorias dairy sector.
