New station goes on show
13 Sep 2018 Corryong Courier, Corryong VIC (General News)
Police in Corryong now call a new state-of-the-art station home, following the official opening on Tuesday.
Member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes, joined Assistant Commissioner, Rick Nugent, to officially open the new S3.2 million, station which was built on the same site as the old building in Jardine Street, Corryong.
The new facility provides a more secure and modem facility for officers to support their critical work, as well as a better station for the local community, Ms Symes said.
The previous station was built on the current site in 1983 with minor renovations over its lifetime but by 2017 staff numbers and technology advancement meant police had again outgrown their premises.
The government is focused on delivering a modern police force and supporting our dedicated officers to do what they do best, keep our community safe, Ms Symes said.
Corryong police are often central to emergency management responses including bushfires, flooding, road trauma and missing persons and now have the space to better co-ordinate this work.
Labor candidate for Benambra, Mark Tait, said the new facilities were just what officers needed.
Its a great outcome for the Corryong community and provides better working conditions for our hard-working police officers. he said.
