23 May 2017 Gannawarra Times, Gannawarra (General News) TWO current politicians have been pre-selected by their respective parties to stand for their roles at next years State Elections. Labor-supported Member for Northern Victoria, Jaclyn Symes and her Liberal counterpart, Wendy Lovell have both been approved to seek another term. Ms Symes is serving her first term representing the Legislative Council seat of Northern Victoria, which stretches from Mildura to Corryong and includes towns on Melbournes fringe, such as Healesville. Mark Gepp, an adviser to former Minister for Emergency Services, Jane Garrett, was pre-selected alongside Ms Symes to replace the retiring Steve Herbert, who resigned from the ministry over the scandal involving his use of a ministerial car to ferry his two pet dogs between his metropolitan and country residences. Ms Symes said that she was proud of what she and the Andrews Government were delivering for northern Victoria. Whether it is rebuilding our schools like Benalla P-12 College, Seymour College or Echuca primary schools, investing in our hospitals including those in Shepparton, Wangaratta and Albury/Wodonga, supporting farmers and producers to access the market, creating jobs and boosting tourism opportunities with funding projects such as the northeast cycling infrastructure or improving train services, Labor is delivering for northern Victoria and I will continue to work hard for the country communities I represent, she said. Meanwhile, Ms Lovell has been a State politician for 15 years, since being first elected to the upper house seat of North Eastern Province in 2002, which became part of the Northern Victoria Region following the reform of the Legislative Council in 2006. I have represented the Northern Victoria Region since its inception in 2006, and am excited to have once again been given the opportunity to be elected to continue working to deliver assistance to the approximately 500,000 constituents in the region, she said.
