23 Jan 2017 Wangaratta Chronicle, Wangaratta VIC (General News) Appin Park reserve lighting boost; Moyhu scores change rooms TWO sporting clubs in the Rural City of Wangaratta will share in $186,000 to improve their facilities. The Appin Park Athletics Reserve, used by the local little athletics club on a Friday night and the local hockey club, will receive $96,000 to install lighting. A change room for netballers and umpires along with a medical room and storage room will also be built at Moyhu Recreation reserve, thanks to $90,000 from the Governments Community Sports Infrastructure fund. Jaclyn Symes (MLC, Northern Victoria) said the major injection of funding from the fund would ensure many country towns in Northern Victoria were provided with the facilities they need. Ms Symes said the funding would secure new change room facilities for female athletes, create new tennis courts, playgrounds, additional lighting, ground and pavilion upgrades, construction and upgrade of multi-sports facilities, improved aquatic facilities and help councils plan for future needs. I am very proud that Labor is delivering for country clubs and providing the facilities they need to attract new members and provide local communities with the recreation needs they have called for, Ms Symes said. Whether you play tennis, football, netball, cricket, soccer, basketball, or ride a BMX, skateboard, swim or socially exercise, Labor is getting on with the job of providing country communities with the facilities they need. These new and expanded facilities throughout Northern Victoria will be a massive boost to local communities. Grassroots sports clubs are the lifeblood of towns, it is where communities get together, locals embrace healthy and active lifestyles and kids enjoy special memories that stay with them for life. For too long, country communities in Northern Victoria have had to contend with ageing facilities, thats why Labor promised wed help clubs update tired grounds and build the facilities they need, and we are doing that. Some other projects to benefit in the region include: Mount Beauty pool $200k; Myrtleford multi-sports pavilion $100k; Yackandandah and Beechworth pools heating installation $$66k; Yackandandah skate park upgrade- $100k Mansfield tennis court construction $90k; Wodongas Willow Park Pavilion change rooms construction $100k.
