07 Dec 2016 Seymour Telegraph, Seymour VIC (General News) by Cathy Walker Unclaimed TAB betting tickets are the gifts that keep giving, with Seymour Racing Club among the beneficiaries of the most recent grants from the Victorian Racing Industry Fund. Racing Minister Martin Pakula visited the club to announce a $140 000 package for 14 racing clubs to buy new tables, chairs, umbrellas and other marquee furniture. The VRIF fund contributed half the money, with Country Racing Victoria tipping in $49 000 and the clubs adding the rest. Seymour Racing Club received $5000 from the funding package for 15 new round tables, 15 trestle tables, 200 chairs and 10 umbrellas. The tables and chairs were used at Seymour last month for the Vietnam veterans Together Then, Together Again race meeting. Seymour Racing Club chief executive Penny Reeve said not having to hire such equipment was very welcome. The Seymour racecourse is an important social hub for the region and the new marquee furniture is a great initiative, Ms Reeve said. She said money for Seymours track reconstruction and a grant towards the horse swimming pool had also come from the industry fund, which is available to the three racing codes of gallops, harness and greyhounds. At last weeks launch, Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes described the marquee furniture as a fantastic initiative that would benefit the local communities who used the clubs for social events and help attract valuable tourism to the region. Mr Pakula said regional Victorias racing industry generated more than $937 million for the states economy and helped sustain more than 9250 full-time equivalent jobs.
