08 Aug 2018 Seymour Telegraph, Seymour VIC (General News) by Gus McCubbing Seymour will host its second Vietnam Veterans Day, to coincide with the anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan, in its football and netball games with Rochester on Sunday. The Battle of Long Tan took place on a rubber plantation in South Vietnam from August 18-19, 1966, and saw 100 Australian resist about 2000 Viet Cong combatants. With 18 Australians were killed and more than 20 wounded, Long Tan resulted in the most casualties for any single battle throughout the Vietnam War. Local members of the Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Walk will be joined by Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes on the day. Seymour Football Netball Club president Gary Brown said this special fixture, with a focus on the Battle of Long Tan, was being used to recognise all local Vietnam War veterans. As a club we think it is extremely important to honour our Vietnam veterans, many of whom were trained and posted locally at Puckapunyal military camp, he said. SFNCs Vietnam Veterans Day will take place at Kings Park on Sunday. All veterans with service medals will be given free entry.
