NOTORIOUS STRIP OF EUROA-MANSFIELD RD IS NOW SAFER TO DRIVE ON
A dangerous section of road south of Euroa has been given a safety boost, delivering jobs and ensuring reliability for its regular road users.
State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said a notorious strip of the Euroa-Mansfield Rd was set to be safer and smoother to drive on.
The government said a $2.8 million upgrade to the 700 m section of road was complete.
The upgrade involved the realigning of a curve to improve sight distance for drivers, widening the roads shoulders to reduce dangerous bends, lowering the crest at the Penny Lane and Ridge Rd intersections and installing flexible safety barriers.
In a statement, the government said there had been nine lane departure crashes in the past five years, resulting in two deaths and five serious injuries.
Weve made this dangerous section of Euroa-Mansfield Rd much safer and helped to reduce the risk of accidents, Ms Symes said.
Not only has this upgrade made this road more reliable for those who use it every day, its also delivered a boost to local jobs and business.
The upgrade was part of the Victorian Governments $1 billion Towards Zero Action Plan, delivered with the Transport Accident Commission and VicRoads.
The speed limit on the road has returned to 60 km/h with the upgrade completed. Ms Symes thanked drivers for their patience during the works.
