ROAD FUNDS BOOST AT LAST

23 May 2017 Sunraysia Daily, Mildura VIC (General News) by Christopher Testa Au A SECTION of a deteriorating and increasingly busy Sunraysia road will be widened and upgraded. The State Government yesterday announced the $850,000 upgrade of HattahRobinvale Road, which will see a 15km stretch sealed to a width of seven metres. Improvements to the 50km road linking the Calder Highway with irrigation districts just south of Robinvale have been near the top of local politicians infrastructure wishlists. The stretch of road to be improved is near the boundary between the Mildura and Swan Hill council areas at Wemen. Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said a new centre line and edge lines would also be painted to make the two lanes more distinct. Hattah-Robinvale Road provides critical access for road trains and farming machinery, connecting NSW and north-west Victorias farming and horticultural industries. The project, being delivered by VicRoads, is expected to be completed by the end of next month. Ms Symes asked drivers to be aware of changed traffic conditions, including reduced speed limits while works take place. Weve listened to local residents and thats why were widening Hattah-Robinvale Road, making it safer and more accessible, Ms Symes said. Member for Mildura Peter Crisp issued a statement last week welcoming more funding for the road. However, while the government is writing this cheque, it should also include some dollars for the remaining roads in our region in desperate need of upgrade, he said. In recent years, traffic on freight routes such as the Hattah-Wemen and RobinvaleSea Lake Roads has grown and those routes have become critically important to both the region and the state.
