THE Victorian Government is helping to make the Murray Valley Highway safer between Yarrawonga and Echuca, by investing in a $20 million upgrade. The project is being split between the Victorian and federal governments, in which the state is contributing $ 10m. Locals will get a chance to have a say on the upgrades through a community consultation process. Northern Victoria MP Jaclyn Symes said more than 130 kilometres of the highway will receive upgrades. Labors investment of $ 10m is making the Murray Valley Highway safer, for local communities, tourists and the freight industry, Ms Symes said. These are vital upgrades to make the Murray Valley Highway safer for all users. The work includes improvements to key intersections and rest stops, as well as sealing dangerous road shoulders. The Murray Valley Highway is an important freight and tourist route between Echuca and Yarrawonga and a key connection to the Shepparton area. The highway is a two lane road, with a 100km/hour designated speed limit and several high speed curves. Over the past decade, there has been a significant increase in traffic volumes and an increase in crashes. Licensed by Copyright Agency. You may only copy or communicate this work with a licence.
