WODONGA TAFE will receive a $2.4 million boost from the Victorian Government to help more than 300 unemployed people break into the workforce. The announcement comes today as Minister for Training and Skills Steve Herbert visits the Border to attend the Group Training Association of Victorias State Conference at Albury, and is part of the Labor Governments $50 million TAFE Back to Work Fund. The cash injection will be used by Wodonga TAFE to build better work placements, help people develop work-ready skills, and offer more training in the growing information and communications technology field. TAFEs mean skills and skills mean jobs, Mr Herbert said. Were supporting Wodonga TAFE to provide more training that gives locals the opportunity to develop the skills they need to get a job in growing industries. Currently, the Australian Bureau of Statistics reports that youth unemployment rates on the Border sit at 17.2 per centwell above the national average of 13.9 percent. The move has also been welcomed by Northern Victoria Region MP Jaclyn Symes. This $2.45 million government investment will support Wodonga TAFE to help jobless young people and long-term unemployed develop skills that will lead to jobs, which we need in our region.
