VetRide cyclists depart Puckapunyal

22 Mar 2016 Macedon Free Press, Kilmore, VIC (General News) VETRIDE participants took off from Puckapunyal last week in a national cycling event that honours the 521 Australian veterans killed in the Vietnam War. Riders left Puckapunyal before heading along Seymours Vietnam Veterans Commemorative Walk on a 122.8km route through to Benalla, stopping at Longwood, Euroa and Violet Town on the way. Day two of the ride saw riders depart from the Benalla Art Gallery on a 116.8km trek and head through Winton, Glenrowan, Milawa, Beechworth, Wooragee and Bandiana on the Victorian/NSW border. The tour finished at the National Vietnam War Memorial in Canberra on March 20. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Battle of Long Tan, where 108 brave young men from D Company RAR resisted an attack of more than 1500 Viet Cong soldiers in what became one of the most extraordinary chapters in Australias military history.
