HELPING BOOST SPORT PARTICIPATION FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS Main Image

20 clubs across Northern Victoria are receiving grants from the Allan Labor Government to help increase opportunities for women and girls to take part in sport.

Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes congratulated AFL Goulburn Murray and Shepparton Junior Soccer Association for securing funding in the 2023-24 Change Our Game Community Activation Grants Program.

The program offers grants of up to $10,000 to eligible organisations to provide more opportunities for women and girls to take part in community sport.

  • AFL Goulburn Murray has received $5,000 towards the delivery of a modified program for junior girls.
  • Shepparton Junior Soccer Association has received $1,020 for the commencement of a girls only competition.
  • Alpine Cycling Club has received $10,000 to develop Mountain Bike Skills Lessons to develop confidence and empower women.
  • Howmans Gap Discovery Camp has received $10,000 for their “Women In Leadership of Discovery” project.
  • Myrtleford Gold Club has received $5,000 to offer golf lessons to women and girls.
  • Wangaratta City Football Club has received $5,000 for “Miniroos for Girls”.
  • Irymple Knights Soccer Club has received $5,000 to create a new under 18s women’s team to provide a pathway to senior women’s soccer.
  • Mildura Rural City Council has received $10,000 to carry out sports training and education workshops.
  • Sunraysia Softball Association has received $7,500 to encourage female participants with disability and diverse cultures.
  • SUP Vic has received $10,000 for their “Women’s SUP Confidence” project.
  • The Gliding Club of Victoria in Benalla has received $5,000 to support flight training sessions and workshops for women and girls
  • Healesville District Soccer Club has received $9,500 to support emerging female soccer stars.
  • Kinglake District Cricket Club has received $10,000 to support their women’s cricket team.
  • Mansfield District Basketball Association has received $5,000 to support training to upskill coaches.
  • Thornton Eildon District Football Netball Club has received $4,600 to engage a personal trainer for the club.
  • Worawa Aboriginal College has received $10,000 for Aboriginal youth skills development.
  • Yarra Junction Football Club has received over $4,000 for their project “Getting off the bench and into the game”.
  • AFL North East Border has received $5,000 for their Female Advocate for U12 Programs, Pride Round and Change Our Game Round.
  • Rutherglen Golf Club has received $9,000 for their One Club Golf project.

The Change Our Game Community Activation Grants Program highlights the Allan Labor Government’s ongoing commitment to gender equality across all levels of the Victorian sport and active recreation sector.

Since the Program was established in 2018, 580 grants have been provided to support community sport and recreation organisations to host initiatives ranging from participation days to community forums and educational sessions.

The grants are part of the Government’s $18.8 million investment in the Change Our Game initiative.
