Labor is making life easier for families in Myrtleford – with the rebuild of a brand-new children’s centre.

Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes announced $9.6 million to rebuild Mountain View Children’s Centre.

It means more kindergarten places, more long daycare and more services for local families, close to home.

Works on the new multipurpose building on Prince Street will start in February 2027.

The new centre will include kinder rooms, long daycare, outside school hours care, a toy library, maternal child health rooms and outdoor play spaces.

Once it opens in 2028, up to 160 children at a time will be able to attend – including 94 places for three- and four-year-old Kinder, and more than 60 long daycare places.

The existing Mountain View Children’s Centre will stay open throughout construction, with the old building demolished later.

From 2027, four-year-old children in the Alpine Shire will be able to access up to 20 hours of Free Kinder each week.
